OUR WINES
Set on the ocean’s edge of the Southern Coast of South Africa, Benguela Cove is known as a leading wine producer in a country famous for their award-winning wines.
With the estate’s unique location and optimum climate conditions it results in the ideal viticulture. The south-easterly sea breeze is chilled by the Benguela current flowing up from Antarctica, to cool the grapes at night after the warm summer days, irrigated by above-average rainfall. This is the perfect terroir to produce grapes of superior quality and result in award-winning wines suitable for even the most complex palate.
Benguela Cove is the epitome of luxury living and this fully functional wine farm has already produced multiple award-winning wines. Residents on the estate get an allocation of wine every year and at full production this will work out to be a case of wine per month (a very nice perk to have). This leads to residents having a sense of ownership without being liable or responsible for the farm. This is their wine farm in the Cape.

JOHANN FOURIE
Benguela Cove Head Winemaker
“Our brief is quite simple; to combine the best efforts of earth and man to produce beautiful wines.”
Johann Fourie is our head winemaker and is one of the foremost experts on winemaking and viticulture in South Africa.
His passion for wine includes all aspects of the industry – from selecting vineyards for our brands, to growing grapes; and from the technology of winemaking to judging on wine competition panels. His experiences include time spent in all the French and other European wine regions, as well in Canada, the United States and Australia. Johann is also the 2015 Diners Club Winemaker of the Year.
Johann’s philosophy is “To bridge the gap between the science and the artistry of making wine: that’s why I enjoy spending time with consumers, not just to share our story and passion for what we do, but also to get a deeper insight into their interest in wine, and to reflect that in every bottle we produce”.
